FAQs

Stairlift FAQs

Is the stairlift attached to the stairs or the wall?

Like all domestic stairlifts, ours are attached to the tread of the stairs and not the wall.

What if I have narrow stairs?

Many of our stairlifts come with a slim rail and a compact carriage. They all have folding arms, seat and footrest, so they fold away neatly when they are not in use. This means they are practical for you and for the other members of your family. We can also supply seats that travel upwards and downwards facing for narrow stairs.

How long does it take to install?

Our stairlifts are installed in just a matter of hours and with the minimum of fuss. Delivery for straight stairlifts is 2-3 weeks, and for curved stairlifts it is 4-6 weeks, manufacturer dependant.

How much does a stairlift cost?

A straight stairlift can be installed from £2000.00 and a curved stairlift can be installed from £5000.00. Additional costs for optional extras such as powered swivel seat, additional rail lengths etc can be advised upon quotation. Reconditioned stairlifts are available as a cheaper alternative to new.

Are there any weight restrictions?

A standard stairlift has a maximum weight limit of 120-140kg. We also supply heavy duty stairlifts that can carry between 160-190kg. This applies to straight and curved staircases.

How much does it cost to run a stairlift?

On average a stairlift costs around £25 in electricity per year to run, approximately 50p per week and less than the cost of boiling a kettle.

Homelifts FAQs

Are homelifts suitable for wheelchair users?

Yes, we offer a range of different size homelifts, some of which can accommodate a wheelchair.  Our large homelifts even have space for a wheelchair and a carer or attendant to stand in the lift too.

What happens if there is a power cut and I am in my homelift?

In the event of a power cut to the home all our domestic lifts are equipped with a battery back-up facility. This is included as standard with the lift and will allow anyone in the lift at the time of power failure to gently descend to the lower level of the home, exit the lift, and wait until the power comes back on.

What is the lead time for a homelift?

The normal lead-time from placing your order for a homelift to project completion is from six to eight weeks. This allows enough time for the aperture to be cut and trimmed and the lift to be manufactured and installed. The work is carried out over a 3-4 day period and is dependant on the nature of the building works involved.

How much does a homelift cost to install?

A standard homelift can be installed from a little as £14,000.00. Larger size lifts incur extra costs, as does extensive build works and optional extras that are required. This price includes installation and building works to form the lift aperture.

How much energy does the homelift consume?

Our range of homelifts are powered by a 13amp power socket like any household appliance and uses no more power than it takes to boil a kettle.

Is VAT applicable on a Homelift?

VAT is chargeable on all homelifts, but if you are disabled or have a long-term illness you may be exempt from paying VAT on products designed or adapted for your own personal or domestic use.  If you think you may qualify for VAT relief, please request an exemption form from a member of our sales team.

Just to say thanks for your input to my parents stair lift...

"It was a life saver, and continues to make a big difference, especially the remote control aspect. Regards..

Dear Matt,

"Thank you very much for the excellent service from yourself and Neil.”

Dear Sir, Yesterday, I was fortunate to have a stairlift installed

"I'm absolutory delighted! I cannot believe what a difference it has made to my life. The engineer (Neil) worked so hard on a hot, humid day in my tiny hall with poor access; he wasn't even able to park very close. No mess, excellent work. Thank you so much. Kind regards.”

Thank you for the installation of the stairlift for my parents.

"Despite the inclement weather they were very impressed by how the fitter (Neil?) managed to keep everything dry and clean and also by his speed and efficiency whilst doing the job. They are now getting used to using the equipment. I was allowed my first ride last weekend and am almost jealous! It will be a great asset to them and will relieve my concern about their ability to go up and down stairs safely. Many thanks to you all.”
Mrs S.

Many thanks for dealing with my Mother's stair lift situation so swiftly.

"Mrs H and Mrs V have given it their seal of approval and and tell me that it will serve her well! In times of stress is is nice to know that there are still firms out there that deal with situations in such a professional manner. Thank you once again. ”
